History The original dwellers of the lush Darlington region were the Migunburri Tribe. These people had a bountiful life because of permanent running water, an abundance of wildlife, lush scrub and open forest. The first settlers came around the late 1870's with selectors taking up land to cut the abundant supply of timber, mainly cedar and pine. Four sawmills were built in the district followed by four schools to accomodate the growing population. A provisional school was established at Darlington in 1890. In 1895 the first Darlington School was built.
The nearby sawmill closed and in 1915 the school closed due to falling numbers and re-opened in 1939. Numbers fluctuated in the ensuing years, stabilizing in the 1980’s. The current school provides a service for children from Widgee, Nindooinbah, Cainbable, Kerry and Darlington. The school consisted of one classroom until 1991 when, due to the increased enrolments, a modular building was constructed, providing two classrooms.
