Darlington's School’s Staff often arrange the curriculum in ways which integrate learning. This means a number of key learning areas are studied at the one time. For instance, during a health lesson there will be opportunities to study spelling, writing, reading and perhaps mathematics and science. This practice is based on sound learning theories. However, at other times the focus will be a single subject, as is often the case with Mathematics and English.
English:   We believe the communication skills of the pupils - Composing and Comprehension - should be developed to suit a variety of social contexts through exposure to and experience with a wide range of genre.

Mathematics:
We believe that maths must be relevant to everyday life, involve problem solving, use hands-on equipment, including modern technology where possible and still emphasise the basic maths facts.

Science: We believe science must be relevant to everyday life and include a variety of hands-on activities including the use of current technology.
Social Studies: We believe that the children should have an understanding of the multicultural nature of our society. The children should develop knowledge of the world and its geographical features. The children should be made aware of current social issues; but at a suitable level considering the maturity of the children.
Health and Physical Education:We believe the children should receive the opportunities to become fit, be able to swim competently, and be aware of drugs and basic health and hygiene. The children should gain experience in a variety of sports which may lead to future leisure activities and pastimes.

Art & Craft:
We believe the children should be given a variety of activities, which may lead to future hobbies, jobs or past-times. The community should be involved as much as possible.

Music:
We believe the pupils should develop a basic understanding of music and its composition. The pupils need to develop tolerance for most forms of music and a love of a variety of forms of music and singing.

Languages Other Than English:  We believe that children, at some time during their Primary School Education should be given the opportunity to experience and explore languages other than English.
Technology: We believe the education of the pupils of this school should take advantage of developments in technology to improve the net educational gains of the pupils. We believe the efficient running of the school requires the use of up to date technological equipment, which reduces the time necessary for administration and thus effectively increases the amount of time, which can be allocated to teaching.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Education: We believe that pupils who can be classified as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, should be considered having regard for the Departmental Policy on Equity and Social Justice.

Equity:
We believe all pupils of this school should receive equal access to educational programs and human and material resources; taking into account the individual's abilities and environmental background.

Gifted and Talented:
We believe that gifted Children, as defined in The Department of Education Policy for the education of the gifted in Queensland State Schools; deserve the opportunity to develop to their individual potential.
Gifted children are those who because of above average abilities, creativity and task commitment perform, or are capable of performing at a higher level in potentially valuable areas of human endeavour.
Integration:
We believe that the children with special needs within the school should be assisted, given the resources and expertise available to the school, to achieve to their fullest potential ie. socially, physically, academically, and emotionally.

Religious Education:
We believe Religious Education should be made relevant to today's society and delivered at a level suitable to the understanding of the children.

School Community: We believe the School Community should include all members of society who could have some involvement with the school, which is, or will be beneficial to the school. The School Community is a reservoir of skills and talents. The members of the School Community should be encouraged to participate in the activities and development of the school.
Physical Resources & Facilities:  We believe playground equipment should be safe, stimulating and educational and needs ongoing maintenance and upgrading.
Resource Centre: We believe the Resource Centre should provide the facilities and services appropriate to the primary school context, given the available funding.
