Darlington State School P&C

We would like to welcome you to our Darlington School family. Our small school prides itself on the friendly community atmosphere and unique educational environment that Darlington provides to students and their families. We trust that you and your children will enjoy being part of our school community.

Our committee generally meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 6.00pm in the classroom, but the actual date is dependant on holidays.

The Parents and Citizens Group next meeting is on the Thursday 19th November at 6 pm.

Reminders of meeting dates are sent out with the school newsletter. All parents are welcome to attend and have greater input into the way in which our children learn to grow. Children frequently attend meetings with parents and are always very welcome. Minutes of the meeting are sent to parents via the newsletter and email. The meetings are open to all who wish to attend. If you have anything that you would like to discuss with the P&C executive please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Bus Run

In early 2006 when the student numbers fell to a level that Qld Transport felt was not worthy of funding and would not support the current bus operators to continue their bus run, the parent body decided that to ensure the future viability of the school we needed to purchase our own bus. We were fortunate enough to have sufficient funds to combine with the generous donation of Cr West & Beaudesert Shire Council (now known as Scenic Rim Regional Council) to secure the purchase of a bus.

To fund the running costs we have set a bus fee of $20/week per student from Beaudesert and $15/week per student from Junction Road, Kerry. P&C meetings allow us to discuss how the bus service is performing & bring up any issues that may affect the quality of service or the financial viability of the run.

All families benefit from the school having its own bus as this allows us to organise excursions and interaction with other small schools without the cost of bus hire. We believe it also helps to ensure the future of our small school.

Since obtaining the bus run most of our profit has gone towards supporting the service. We have always maintained that the P&C would heavily subsidise school camps & excursions so that all children, regardless of their family’s financial position, can participate in these important school events.

Fundraising

The Darlington State School P & C Association is highly renowned for its catering. The pavlova stall is a highlight at The Rathdowney Heritage Festival around Easter each year. The catering for the "Arts in the Olive Fest" at Darlington is also a great success.

Being a small parent base & surrounding community, we endeavour to keep fundraising activities to 1-2 big events rather than constantly hounding parents to sell raffle tickets, chocolates etc. Each year in April, we have held a stall at the Rathdowney Heritage Festival which not only raises a large amount of funds but allows parents to get to know each other better. Although the day takes a lot of preparation & requires all hands on deck, we feel it is far better than running many small activities throughout the year.

We look forward to your children benefiting from the wonderful educational opportunities the school offers and the opportunity for you to be an active participant in a committed and caring parent community.
