SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY
Darlington State School offers an academically rigerous educational programme based on skills, attitudes, concepts, knowledge and action. Through a play and inquiry-based programme that celebrates and taps into both the diversity that exists within our community and our unique location in the Kerry Valley, students at Darlington are encouraged to become critical thinkers, life long learners and active members in the community. We provide stimulating learning experiences that are focused around the strengths and needs of individuals and encourage each child to reach their full potential - We aim to foster a love of learning in children and provide them with the skills they need, to be adaptable and flexible in a rapidly changing world. Through modelling and making learning explicit, we strive towards creating a learning community in which all members are; caring, open-minded, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, inquirers, balanced, reflective, risk takers and principled. We aim to prepare children for a life full of learning and understanding. Through the explicit teaching and modelling of concepts, knowledge, skills and attitudes, children develop all that is needed to become life long learners and to act upon their beliefs and their findings. Children are encouraged to ask questions, to inquire and to seek out answers, to understand not just remember, to make connections between the global, local and personal and to begin to see and appreciate their role in the world as a learner and as a global citizen. At Darlington, learning, like life itself, doesn't end when the book is closed or when we leave the classroom. It is an ongoing journey of discovery.
